The organic sprouts were from our own garden. :)

Burger Junkyard, The Strand Kota Damansara

I'm sure you've noticed more and more burger outlets are mushrooming in the city.
I'm not a big fan of burger, but sometimes innovative recipes could have drawn me to try one, especially with vege (since burgers are always with meat patty). :)

One afternoon I was at The Strand and looking for food (lunch time), I remember passing by this burger outlet some times ago, and thought maybe I should check out if they have non meat menu.

So they do. :)

 I was given this white rat with a number once I paid for my order at the counter.
Hmm, rats have something to do with junkyard, I supposed. But luckily it's quite cute la.

 My order -pineapple fungi, the only set that is vegetarian. RM12.50 instead of normal price RM13.90. They're giving 10% off on all burgers that week as their facebook page hit 1000 likes by then.
I was lucky! :D

 Layer by layer: sliced tomatoes, onion, green, juicy pineapple slice and one big fried portobellow mushroom. Yums!
I love the fries with skin too~

Kaffa Espresso Bar, Damansara Utama (day & night)

Here's another cafe for people in PJ especially Uptown area.
Kaffa it is.
You will find it when you're near to Perodua showroom, with a few famous Hollywood stars drawn on the black wooden blind.

Our first visit was at night.
Chenyee's americano in metal mug.

Nice and cosy interior with a lot of black, red bricks and wooden tables.

Botanical, Bangsar Village ll (2 visits)

My first visit to Botanical wasn't a pleasant one.
Don't get me wrong, it's not about their service or food. I was not feeling well that day and everything I read on the menu doesn't sound delicious at all.:(

But I still couldn't resist myself to take this complimentary bread. :)

Salt and chilli tofu tempura with Thai chilli sauce, RM8.90.
I think this was the only I thought is edible for me. Also I ordered this just to fill up my stomach.
And it was not bad at all, my sisters thought it's nice.

Tom yam tempeh pasta, RM19.90.
Quite a unique combination, chenyee was being adventurous. ;)
But no worry, it wasn't bad at all.

Malaysia Barista Championship 2013

I only managed to watch the performance by the last contestant in Malaysia Barista Championship 2013 today.
And the last contestant, Evon from Top Brew Coffee Bar will be in the final tomorrow with the other 5 finalists. All the best to them!

The event is held in Black Box MAP @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas.
The final tomorrow will start at 10am.
Go cheers kuat-kuat for them!

Update from finale today!

Too bad I wasn't in time to watch the finale, but I did enjoy the latte art jam, interesting!

The Champion is Jason Loo of Red Bean Bag (right); 1st runner up is Bruce Khong of Departure Lounge (centre) and 2nd runner up is Mavin Gunaseelan.

Best espresso goes to Joseph Long of Plan b. Roasters while best signature drink goes to Evon Tan of Top Brew. If I'm not mistaken, Suren from Whisk won the best cappuccino. (correct me if I'm wrong)

Anyway, congratulations to all the baristas. It was a tough competition and you guys were great!

A quick lunch

My quick lunch at home.
My type of fusion food. lol.

Stirfried potato, carrot, onion and tiny corn with oyster sauce.

I visited HotShots on one weekday afternoon in January before I was invited for this review.
I still accept the invitation as I wanted to try more stuffs from them :)

That was still in Christmas mood in January, hence the x'mas decor.

They sell many types of coffee machines other than roasted coffee beans.

It surprised me when I was served this brownies set along with juice and ice cream, not forgetting the generous amount of fresh strawberries.
The brownies was made from Swiss and Belgian chocolate which, I guess, brings the sweet taste to it.

Pickle & Fig, TTDI

Here's a new cafe in Taman Tun near to the fire station.
So where's the pickle and where's the fig?
Let's find out.

The full length menu on the wall, that's all one can order.
But too bad, we wanted portobello hummus but not available.
Even when chenyee went again the next week, it's still unavailable. :(

My cappuccino, RM8. ok.

They serve quite interesting mix of juices.
I guess this is the popular one -Goji-rawrr!
With wolfberries, strawberries, apple, pineapple & yogurt delight, it does sound healthy and delicious at the same time. (RM12)
Well, it's goooood~

Smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich, RM19.
Each meal comes with salad and fried wedges.

Hoisin chicken & grilled zucchini panini, RM16.
Not too bad, the sauce matched the tender chicken breast meat quite well.
We love the wedges with skin.

So, there's neither pickle nor fig found in the cafe.

Simple Life, SS2 Mall

Considering a meal that is organic? Natural? Healthy and tasty as well?

Well, Simple Life can be a choice to dine in that fulfills these criteria.

 I hardly come to SS2 Mall but I was here on a Saturday afternoon just to drop by at this eatery that promises healthy and organic food.

I was a bit undecided what to eat as I was spoiled with choices.
Too many things that I wanna try but I was dining alone.

So I had brown rice nasi lemak, RM12.90.
It's a very big portion. Everything was good, I especially like the acar and sambal.

This is apple+carrot+ginger+honey juice. RM7.90.
Refreshing. And not to forget healthy. :)

Cozy in the Rocket, Beach street Penang

We were walking along Beach Street on the day we came to Penang for the Chinese New Year Cultural & Heritage celebration, we noticed this new cafe opposite ChinaHouse.

At second glance, hmm, it looks like Amelie Cafe la.
We decided to go in to check out since it's a good time for teatime. :)

Once we saw the couple owners, we knew we were right.
I found out from the lady owner that they had just moved here and Amelie Cafe is a history then.

Now, it's La Cucina (sorry I mistaken that as their name! which means kitchen) Cozy in the Rocket.

A good start for them indeed, as too many negative reviews (there're good ones too though) of Amelie.
Now that they are bigger and better, they seem to be friendlier too.
Must be the spaciousness that helps (I thought :P).

The cafe is still heavily self-decorated look, which is nice.

Homemade vegan brownies

I was flipping through my recipe book one afternoon and found this vegan brownies recipe that I jot down.
After checking the list of ingredient,  I thought I can try to make one as almost all ingredients could be found in my cupboard.

It was super easy, just mix all the ingredient in a pot, blend it well and put it into the oven (of course preheat the oven first la) and voilà! It's done. :)

I ate some once taking out from the oven to test.
Tasted ok, enough moist inside and a little crunchy outside, and absolutely smelling good!

But after a while when it's cooling off, I thought it's not sweet enough (even for my taste bud) and had the overpowering flour taste.
I'm not sure if it's the pastry flour that I used or what, but I shall try again by adjusting the recipe a bit. See how it turns out then~

Here's the recipe that I follow and tell me if you had any idea to improve it. :D

Organic Vegan Brownies

1 cup of whole wheat pastry flour ( I used organic plain pastry flour)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup of carob powder (cocoa powder, I used Van Houten's)
1/2 cup soy milk
1/2 cup maple sryup
1/2 cup sunflower oil (I used organic olive oil)
1 teaspoon vanilla (not using)
1 pinch of seasalt

All mixed in and blend well, oven heat 180°C for 25 minutes.

alessio, Publika

I didn't know about the opening of Alessio until I passed by one day.
What attracted me was the wood fire pizza, that has made me thought of something like Coconut House.

So I came here for lunch with py before sending her off to KL Sentral.

The bakery section, if I'm right there are artisan breads. I didn't buy any as I had my sufficient supply at home already. :)

One huge margarita pizza for sharing.
Tasted ok but not memorable.
We had latte which was not great too.

Anyway, cosy interior with interesting printed pillow cases.
I like the wall light too.
